Finding the Magic: Are There Any Christmas Tree Stores Left?

If you've driven past a shopping plaza recently, you might wonder what happened to the brick-and-mortar stores dedicated entirely to holiday decor. Following high-profile retail bankruptcies, many shoppers ask whether physical Christmas tree stores still exist.

The landscape of physical holiday shopping has undergone a dramatic shift over the past decade. Are there any Christmas tree stores left? While the iconic discount chain Christmas Tree Shops closed its physical doors in 2023, dedicated Christmas specialty stores, year-round holiday boutiques, local tree farms, and big-box showrooms are thriving across North America.

Where to Buy Christmas Trees In Person Today

If you want to see, feel, and inspect artificial foliage or smell fresh evergreen pine in person before buying, here is where physical Christmas tree shopping thrives today:

• Year-Round Specialty Stores
• Bronner's Christmas Wonderland (MI), Christmas Place (TN)
• World's largest physical Christmas showrooms, thousands of pre-lit trees, personalized decor
• Home Improvement Showrooms
• The Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards
• Massive seasonal "forest" setups with live working models of pre-lit, color-changing artificial trees

3 Tips for Finding Physical Christmas Tree Displays

• Visit Showrooms Between October & November: Major retailers set up their artificial tree indoor "forests" as early as mid-October. Shopping early allows you to test lighting controls and branch density before popular models sell out.
• Support Local Nursery Pop-Ups: Many local plant nurseries transform into winter wonderlands during November and December, offering premium cut trees, artisan wreaths, and cozy holiday gift shops.
• Check Flagship Experience Stores: Premium artificial tree brands (like Balsam Hill) frequently set up seasonal pop-up showrooms in major shopping malls, letting customers touch realism-grade branches before ordering.

The Bottom Line

While classic discount chains have evolved, **in-person Christmas tree shopping is far from dead**. From giant home improvement showrooms to magical year-round Christmas destinations, seeing and feeling holiday greenery in person remains a cherished festive tradition!
